Dating and relationship therapy in California

You might find yourself asking, “I understand my patterns. Why do I keep ending up in the same relationship?” You may know a relationship is not giving you what you want and still find it difficult to leave.

I work with adults who want to understand the patterns they bring to dating and relationships, make clearer decisions, and become more honest about what they need.

When the same dynamic keeps returning

Relationship patterns are rarely a simple matter of choosing better. They can be shaped by what feels familiar, what you learned to expect from closeness, and the ways you protect yourself from rejection, conflict, or dependence.

Therapy can help when you are caught in a situationship, preoccupied with someone who cannot commit, repeatedly losing interest when a relationship becomes secure, or staying in something that no longer fits.

What we can work on

  • Anxious, avoidant, or inconsistent attachment patterns

  • Dating people who are emotionally unavailable

  • Difficulty setting limits or asking directly for what you want

  • Fear of commitment, abandonment, or being alone

  • Recovering from a breakup or deciding whether to stay

  • Building a life that is not organized around another person’s attention

Active, relational therapy

I am not a blank slate. I will ask questions, point out patterns, and tell you what I notice. We will pay attention to what happens in your relationships and what happens between us, then look for changes you can practice outside the room.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be in a relationship?

No. Many clients come to therapy because of dating patterns, a breakup, an ambiguous relationship, or the desire to approach future relationships differently.

Can you help me decide whether to stay or leave?

I will not make the decision for you. We can work toward enough clarity that your choice is based on what you want and value, not only fear, urgency, or someone else’s expectations.

Do you also work with couples?

Yes. Individual relationship therapy focuses on your patterns and choices. Couples therapy focuses on the relationship and involves both partners.
